2013 and Beyond

As the year comes to a close, we rewind the tape a bit and reflect on everything that has happened in this past year, and begin looking forward to the year to come...and beyond.

ComingSoon has our first look at the three announced Pixar films that will follow after Monsters University this June, and I must say, it is quite thrilling to finally get a sense of what these films will look like.

The first image is concept art from Bob Peterson's The Good Dinosaur, which shows a boy sitting on a giant dino's head with a bright yellow sky in the background. It sure looks like Peterson is cooking up quite the film over in Emeryville.

The second is from Pete Docter's "inside the mind" film, reportedly entitled The Inside Out, and gives us a close-up look at the protagonist, a young girl, and the emotions inside her head, which will serve as characters in the film. Docter will no doubt blow us away once again just as he did with Monsters, Inc. and Up.

This final piece of artwork showcases Lee Unkrich's upcoming feature, which revolves around the Mexican holiday of Dia de los Muertos - Day of the Dead. Clearly, this is going to be one of Pixar's most vibrant, colorful, and (ironically) lively films ever.

So now we've got all these incredibly intriguing projects up ahead, but before they get here, let's enjoy this new year (and Monsters University). It's been a great year, and I wish you all the best in 2013!

Happy New Year from Pixar Corner!

Partysaurus Rex Coming Home with Monsters

Monsters, Inc. hit theaters in 3D just last week, so it's only natural that the film is going to be given a Blu-ray 3D release in February. Pixar Talk reports that Partysaurus Rex, the Toy Story Toon that played in front of Finding Nemo 3D in September, will be included this new Monsters Blu-ray release.

Although the short can already be viewed on the official Toy Story website, it's going to be great seeing it in full high-definition and, of course, in 3D. Just imagine that colorful bathtub over-flowing right into your living room. Now wouldn't that be awesome?

Bring Partysaurus and Monsters, Inc. home on Blu-ray 3D on February 19th!

Monsters, Inc. 3D - Now Playing!

Yet another Pixar re-release has arrived in theaters, and today the studio's beloved Monsters, Inc. gets its time to shine on the big screen once again, this time in breathtaking, eye-popping 3D.

In honor of the release, check out this featurette in which director Pete Docter tells you what you can expect to find when you go watch Monsters in 3D. By the looks of it, there is a 99% chance that you will not be disappointed!

See Mike and Sulley in all their glory while they're here in theaters, otherwise you'll have to wait until June to see them in the upcoming prequel Monsters University. I'm hearing some really good things about Monsters, Inc. 3D, so this is one re-release you won't want to miss!

Monstrous News

Monsters, Inc. hits theaters in 3D tomorrow, and Pixar fans are anxiously hoping that the ever-so-anticipated trailer for Monsters University will show up then. While we patiently wait, have a look at these MU tidbits that have been dropped in the past few days.

On Friday, the studio treated us to yet another still (pictured above) from the upcoming prequel on their Tumblr blog. The new image appears to be a continuation of the scene shown in one of the previous stills. Sulley seems to be having quite a bit of fun, but I'd say Mike isn't as happy about the situation.

Available now for pre-order is the latest Pixar "Art of" book, The Art of Monsters University. This book will no doubt be exploding with vibrant colors and superb artwork by the extremely talented team of artists at the  studio. The current cover art may or may not be the same by the time the book arrives in June - usually these books are given temporary covers when they are first made available to pre-order, but last year's Art of Brave had the same cover artwork from the very beginning, so only time will tell what will happen with this one.

Monsters University hits theaters June 21st, 2013, and the original film returns to theaters tomorrow, so don't miss out!

EW Reveals New MonstersU Images!

A website, two posters, and now two brand new stills from Monsters University fresh from the studio. But still no stinking trailer.

However, Pixar may be torturing us fans by not yet having released a new trailer (and not even mentioning when it'll pop up), but at least they're feeding us with small appetizers like these new images to ease the hunger for the extremely anticipated trailer.

Entertainment Weekly debuted the stills, and also talked with director Dan Scanlon, who gave brief explanations of what is happening in each of the images.

“They’re at a fraternity party, and this is Mike and Sulley getting off on the wrong foot a little bit,” he says of the first image (seen above). Mr. Scanlon also tells us that the creature Mike is clutching in his right arm while being lifted up by his furry rival is "the monster equivalent of a farm animal" and the university's mascot. The second image sees a young Mike arriving at MU on his very first day, eager to begin a new chapter in his life.

Be sure to read the full story over at EW, and look forward to Pixar's Monsters University this summer. In the meantime, Monsters, Inc. 3D hits theaters just next week, so don't miss out on this chance to get to see the original film in theaters 11 years after its original release!

Pixar Corner Gets Christmassy

Once again, the amazing Paul Robin has provided us with a fantastical new seasonal header for this blog.

In this year's Christmas logo, a snowman's head take the place of the usual Luxo ball. Who knows, maybe this snowman is relative of little Knick from Pixar's 1989 short film Knick Knack.

Big thank you to Paul Robin, who has also posted a new holiday-themed adventure on his blog - don't forget to check that out! Happy Holidays!

Pete Docter 'Mind' Film Gets Title - Unconfirmed

Pixar has announced so many upcoming projects lately that I'm starting to lose track of how many films they have in store for us. However, out of all their upcoming projects, Pete Docter's film that delves into the world of the human mind intrigues me the most. The film is yet to be given a title, but Bleeding Cool reports that the film is in fact called The Inside Out.

Bredon Connelly writes:

"We've now heard that the film is on the verge of getting an official title and that title is almost certainly going to be 'The Inside Out'. That title hasn't yet been cleared, but it's the one Pixar wants. Barring any problems with getting the name okayed, we can probably expect it to be announced soon."

Following Pixar's tradition of giving their films simple yet powerful titles, this title really excites me and makes me even more eager to find out more about this film. There are endless possibilities when crafting a movie about the human mind, even more so than there are when crafting one about monsters, I'd say. This is likely both a blessing and a curse for Docter and the Pixar crew; if the sky is the limit, where do you begin?

Hopefully Pixar decides to stick with this title, I quite like it. Look forward to an official announcement from the studio!

Finding Nemo Swims Onto Blu-ray!

Just when you thought your Christmas wishlist was complete, one of the most beloved animated films of all time arrives on Blu-ray in glorious high-definition.

If you watched Finding Nemo 3D in theaters back in September and were left dumbfounded, bewildered, and just plain bamboozled, then I suggest purchasing the new Ultimate Collector's Edition Blu-ray of the film, which just so happens to include the 3D version of the film. If you're not that big on 3D but still love the film and would delight in owning it on Blu-ray, there's also the regular Collector's Edition.

This is a must-have for any Pixar fan, and for film fans in general. It's been said countless times before, but Finding Nemo is one beautiful-looking movie, so just imagine seeing that movie with pristine video quality and unbelievable audio.

Feel free to check out my review of Nemo's 3D re-release, and if you're planning on buying the film on Blu-ray, Disney Movie Rewards has a coupon which will save you $5 on your purchase, which is valid until the 19th of this month (though only in the US and Canada).

Speaking of December 19th, Monsters, Inc. 3D hits theaters in just 15 days, and the Nemo Blu-ray comes with a free movie admission to see it! Disney and Pixar released this TV spot today:

Finding Nemo is now available to own on Blu-ray and Blu-ray 3D (hooray)!

Monsters University Teaser Posters Hit Web!

The faces of millions of Pixar fanatics lit up like Christmas trees yesterday when the first teaser posters for the upcoming Monsters University showed up.

Above is the domestic teaser poster, a simplistic yet wonderful poster which, as A113Animation points out, "harkens back to the poster for the 2001 original". Below you can take a look at the equally marvelous international poster, which gives us a nice sneak peek at Mike and Sulley's dorm room at MU, as well as their rough, competitive relationship with each other as rivals.

Pixar always puts millions of little details into everything they do, and these posters are no exception. Look no further than the textbooks Mike is standing on for evidence of this, and if you look closely on the international poster, you'll see that the time on the alarm clock is 1:13 AM...

Monsters University, the anticipated prequel to Pixar's hit comedy Monsters, Inc. hits theaters in 202 days, but in the meantime, you can catch the original film in theaters (this time in 3D, of course) later on this month!
